LAHORE: Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hassan Askari on Saturday said the interim set-up has to serve the public within a stipulated time so as to remove the concerns of people through its performance.
Speaking to the media after paying a visit to the national poet Allama Iqbal’s mausoleum to pay his respects, he said he has come to serve the country for a fixed period and that the purpose of his assuming the office of the chief executive of the province for an interim period is to hold transparent elections.
Dr Askari said it is down to the caretaker set-up to provide constitutionally permitted equal opportunities to all political parties. Maintaining law and order situation is also the responsibility of the interim government, he added.
“Our fundamental priority is to offer an environment for holding free, fair and transparent elections,” he added.
People’s trust in an interim government is established through its performance and their reservations will be removed once it put up a good performance, the interim CM said.
He said his cabinet will be limited and comprise members having no affiliation with any political party.
Dr Askari also hinted at bringing minor changes, if need be, in the provincial and district administration of Punjab to ensure transparency during the July 25 polls but dispelled the impression of any major shuffling.
